The paleo diet consists of eating foods presumed to have been available to humans during the Paleolithic era and thus rejects modern diets that are full of processed foods. Food groups allowed in paleo include meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and healthy fats, while processed foods, sugar, grains, most dairy products, legumes, artificial sweeteners and trans fats are to be avoided. Some studies have suggested that paleo can lead to weight loss and health benefits. However, critics have pointed out that the digestive system of modern humans have evolved to become different from those of cavemen.
